Apart from the murder of student at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology yesterday night, Lae has seen another killing where a doctor was shot at the back-end-road. Vice President of the National Doctors Association and the Senior Paediatrician at the ANGAU Memorial Hospital, Dr Alphonse Benjamin Rongap was shot by criminals in an attempt to steal his vehicle. The National Doctors Association has called on all respective legal authorities and the community in Lae to work together to apprehend these criminals. President of National Doctors Association, Dr James Naipao has condemned this criminal act calling it barbaric and senseless. According to Dr Naipao, in protest and to aid the quick apprehension of these criminals, the clinical services at Angau Memorial Hospital will scale down operations to provide emergency cover only until the criminals are apprehended and brought to justice. The Nationals Doctors Association also extends their prays and condolences to the late Dr Rongap's family.
