Two children, are among six people confirmed dead, following sorcery-related
killings at the Nahorawa L-L-G in the Raicoast District of Madang Province. These killings have spilled over to the Ramu Agri Industrial Area at Gusap, which led to the death of a man from Jiwaka. Madang Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Sylvester Kalaut told NBC News yesterday, the killings occurred on Monday, after a group attacked sorcerers, over sorcery-suspected deaths. Chief Superintendent Kalaut, said two men were initially attacked on Monday by the group, torturing and then dismembering them, as well as burning their houses. "So as the result they formed a group called Haus- Man, and so the haus man is a sanction group by their community to wipe out people who practice sorcery. The community is an authority. So far according to the president of Nahorawa about 41 lives have been lost due to the sorcery practices." . Superintendent Kalaut also confirmed 184 suspects now in police custody. Madang Governor, Jim Kas also flew into the troubled area yesterday, appealing to locals not to take the law into their own hands. Comments are closed.
