Theo Abal, (pictured) described in past media reports as the son of Sam Abal who at the time was the Member for Wabag Open and acting Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, was sentenced to 18 years in jail by the National Court in May this year for murdering a woman - allegedly by cutting her throat. It was said that the body of the woman, who was publicly identified as Theresa Ori Taisu and a mother of four children, was 'found at the compound of Abal’s family home' in Port Moresby.
Lazarus Bira writing for The National newspaper at the time reported that convicted murderer Theo Abal's sentence was reduced from 18 years to 14 years. He reported: "Justice George Manuhu reduced the sentence of 18 years to 14 years, one month and one week, for the time already spent in prison."
Justice Manuhu was further quoted by The National Newspaper reporter as saying:
“I have taken into account that the offence committed was serious, someone has lost her life. Such offence is prevalent in the country.”
“The sentence given should help to deter such crime. The killing in this case is unnecessary."
“You were not threatened or hurt to warrant the killing. No one has the right to takeaway people’s lives."
“Only God gives and takes away life.”
However, a source has since advised: "The guy in black shirt is Theo Abal. Son of former deputy PM Sam Abal who was found guilty of murdering a woman and sentenced to Bomana. Apparently, he is a free man now and this is him celebrating with CIS officers in full uniform."
Me: He was sentenced in May to 18 years in prison for murder. Are you absolutely 100% certain it is Theo Abal in the picture?
Source: "200%. That's Theo Abal in Black. The guy wearing the blue cut shirt is his cousin. His name is Jeremy Iso Krammer. That's Theo Abal 200%!"
So where is convicted murderer Theo Abal right now? Equally importantly where is the CIS Commissioner right now to discipline his officers pictured allegedly "celebrating" with a convicted murderer?
