Former Member for Kagua- Erave Charles Miruluta is calling on the National Government to build permanent bridges as the replacement of the recently washed away Yalo Bridge in Southern Highlands Province.
Miruluta who had a short stint as an MP in 2009 after unseating David Basua said the lives of the people depended very much on that bridge and it must be replaced.
The entire population living near the Yalo river as well as people in that electorate had suffered. Miriluta also urged the government not to use private contractors as most do not get the job completed.
“The Yalo Bridge is not only used by our people in Kagua-Erave. It also serves other people coming from other provinces working in our province and also it will serve the Southern Gulf Highway which is still yet to be completed. Not only that, the bridge can be able for bigger moving vehicles to travel on so I humbly ask the government if they can construct a two lane permanent bridge,” Miriluta said.
Miriluta thanked the National Executive Council for approving the K13 million for the relief of major road infrastructure in the flood stricken areas of SHP.
“I ask the government to offer the contract to the PNGDF Engineering Division and the Works Department to construct that Bridge. There is also other two semi built bridge past the main Yalo bridge and those also needed to be restructured again,” Miriluta said. Post Courier news
